Your practical checklist
For the request
- Valid passport you will use to travel
- Recent acceptable facial photo
- Email address you can access
- Payment method accepted by the official service
- Honest answers about purpose, health and character
For travel
- Passport matching the authority details
- NZeTA confirmation email
- Paid onward or return travel evidence
- Evidence of funds if requested
- New Zealand Traveller Declaration when entering
Passport validity
Immigration New Zealand says the passport used for the request must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave New Zealand. If you renew or replace your passport, check whether you need to update or request a new NZeTA.
Funds and onward travel
Visitors may be asked to show at least NZD $1,000 per month, or NZD $400 per month when accommodation has already been paid. You should also be able to show a paid ticket out of New Zealand or qualifying cruise/private-craft evidence.
Health, character and genuine intentions
You must answer the official questions truthfully. A criminal conviction, previous deportation or exclusion, medical-treatment purpose, or another complex circumstance can mean an NZeTA is not suitable. Consider a visa and official advice before travel.
